Orientation information for MS-3s and MS-4s

Welcome to APH!

This information is meant to help orient you to your inpatient rotation.  Your main contact during the inpatient rotation is Dr. Natalia Salazar.

Key numbers:

  • APH Resident Inpatient Phone: 321-841-2956

  • Code for the APH 6th floor resident workroom: 514#

  • WPH Nursery Resident Phone: 321-841-2954

MS-3 Schedule and Expectations

  • Mon - Thurs 6am - 5pm, Friday 6am-6pm. Be present for morning sign-in and evening sign-out.

  • See 2-3 patients/day with an intern.

  • Go to all resident conferences, generally held at 8am and noon. The residents have the most updated conference schedule.

  • Work one weekend day during your rotation.

  • Late days: Stay past sign out (5pm) and do an admission with the night team. Choose two nights and let your senior resident know.

  • One presentation to the team on a pediatric topic of choice. Coordinate this with your senior resident.  The attending does not have to be present.

  • Nursery days: Spend one day in the nursery with the nursery team at WPH.  See 1-2 patients and present them on rounds.

  • You may write notes in the Epic EMR. The intern you are working with will review it and co-sign it.

MS-4 Schedule and Expectations

  • 2 weeks of days Mon-Fri, 6am – 5pm following the intern schedule.

  • 2 weeks of nights Sun-Thurs, 5pm – 6am. Be present for evening and morning resident handoffs.

  • See 4-5 patients/day with supervision by an upper level resident.

  • Go to all resident conferences (typically at 8am and noon). The residents will have the most updated conference schedule.

  • Give one presentation to the team on a pediatric topic of your choice. This can be given any time and an attending does not have to be present.

  • You may write notes in the Sunrise EMR. The senior resident you are working with will review it and co-sign it.

Note: While Dr. Salazar is your contact person for the rotation, you may not necessarily work directly with him. As a result, your evaluation will include feedback from all the attendings and residents you worked with during your rotation.

Please do not hesitate to let Dr. Salazar know if you have any questions or issues.

Below are reading materials for your rotation.  Ideally you will have read these in preparation for your rotation:
